Charlie Wilson's War

Watched an excellent movie last night of the above title.

Without giving to much away it's about how a Congressman named Charlie Wilson became involved in arming the Afghans against the USSR during the cold war.

The Afghans eventually drove the Soviets out of their country thanks to the U.S. (and largely Charlie Wilson's efforts).

But that seems to be where we (the U.S.) dropped the ball. After the Soviets left we pretty much cut all funding (the way it sounds) and left a country that was 50% below the age of 14 years or younger to develop and rebuild on it's own AND having no idea what we did for them (since it was a covert operation).

This gave rise the Islamofacists called the Taliban. Interesting huh? Now look where we are. Hopefully we'll rebuild and educate the Afghan's this time before we leave so we don't have to go back again in 15 years.

Kinda makes a good argument for staying in Iraq and rebuilding that country, unless we want to go back in 10 to 15 years when the next crazy dictator takes over and becomes a credible threat.

Anyway, good movie with zero boring parts and you learn a little about history.
